REAL TEACHER TESTIMONIALS

• “WOW! I’ve been teaching for 16 years and this has been the most useful thing I have used. My students really understand all of the skills and I loved knowing I wasn’t moving on without all my kids being proficient. The beautiful layout, structured format and clear expectations made it so easy to make these become part of our daily routine. I highly recommend them to everyone.” (Thank you Jocelyn P.)

• “I started using your monthly spiral review pages in October and never looked back. Not only did they provide us with quality daily work, but I just got my end of year scores back for the district math assessments and my entire class crushed it. I attribute their success 100% to these pages combined with your guided math book that opened my eyes to a whole new way of teaching. I can’t thank you enough. My administration has taken notice. I’m so proud of what we’ve done.” (Thank you Kerri K.)

• My teammates and I had the opportunity to see you present about guided math and math workshop and excitedly jumped right in with your guided math format the next week! We have been using the spiral review pages as homework and in the “at your seat” station during our daily math worksop. OMG!!! We ALL agree that between the new teaching routines and the use of these pages our students are consistently performing above average and truly understand the math. It’s not just our opinion either because we just received our test scores from last year and they were not only MUCH higher than ever before but we outscored the district and student growth from the previous year was amazing. That was what prompted me to finally leave a review. I/we can not recommend these enough. Thank you for not only making our jobs easier, but so much more enjoyable as well. (Thank you Jessica R.)

• These are absolutely wonderful for my students! I use them for a variety of things including review and homework.

• “Love the data sheets! Great way for me and my students to monitor their learning.” (Thanks Kelsey)

FULL DESCRIPTION

Second (2nd) Grade Homework, Morning Work, Spiral Review, etc for the ENTIRE YEAR.

Includes 250 NO PREP Spiral Review Pages {plus analysis pages, additional show your work pages and answer keys}!

Are you looking for an easy way to consistently review the 2nd grade math skills throughout the year so you are not reteaching concepts in the spring or before testing? Do you want highly-effective and useful tasks to give your students as homework or morning work without needing to scramble to find something each day? The NO PREP, Spiral Review Packets will provide you will all that and more. They are completely aligned with the 2nd grade Common Core Math Standards, but will work perfectly in schools/states that do not teach using the CCSS as they are not labeled with anything Common Core specific.

My teaching partner and I used the 3rd grade version of these throughout the entire school as nightly homework Monday through Thursday and on Friday they completed one page in class as an assessment during Guided Math Workshop Rotations. We both found that these enabled us to focus on teaching and not on pulling resources for homework each day and provided our students with a much more comprehensive understanding of the concepts. They really seemed to benefit from using the projectable answer key to go over the work together in class as well.

The packets in this bundle all have monthly/seasonal themes. September targets many of the skills that were required by the end of first grade and was designed to be used as a review for the new year and to pinpoint important skills that 2nd graders must be proficient in before moving on to new standards. The following months build in a systematic, sequential order with lots of spiral review built in so that students retain important concepts.

I created this resource to meet a need I saw in my own classroom. As a third grade teacher I found that although my students would demonstrate proficiency in a skill or concept at the time it was formally taught, they would often show misconceptions when we would review for the standardized tests in the spring. I knew this stemmed from those skills being taught in isolation and that my students needed more spiral review.

Like you, one of the greatest obstacles I face as a teacher is finding the time to “do it all.” Therefore it was really important to me that I created something that was both efficient and effective.  I really wanted a consistent method of quickly reviewing the grade level concepts on a regular basis in a manner that did not distract from our new learning.  I also wanted to be able to easily identify students who were struggling with a skill to further drive my instruction when planning new lessons and forming small groups.

Here’s what I came up with...

I created a collection of 25 simple pages per month with a consistent layout that offers familiarity for students and their families. I designed them so that teachers have lots of options on how they wish to use them.  Students can have their own individual copy to write on (perfect for homework, morning bell work, and “at your seat” practice during math workshop) or teachers may use just one copy at a center and have the students record their answers on the included answer strips or in a notebook.

The page layout for recording their answers allows for quick assessment and greatly reduces the time it takes to correct the students’ work. To maximize my ability to identify specific areas of weakness, I put great care into the layout of the questions and created both a whole class and individual student item analysis sheet which make it very easy to collect data to drive instruction.

Because my goal was to offer my students a consistent spiral review of the grade level skills, I feel it is very beneficial to quickly go over each page together as a class. For that reason the PDF was specifically created in a horizontal format so that I can easily project a copy of it onto my interactive whiteboard for a visual, engaging mini-lesson.

I have been successfully using these as homework Monday through Thursday (along with a nightly reading log). I then dedicated a few minutes each morning to going over them together and having the students self-correct their homework using the projectable version.

On Fridays I give the students the extra page for the week to complete independently in class and correct those myself using the
item analysis sheets. This shows me how the class is doing as a whole and provides me with data that then guides my instruction during math workshop.

I’m really excited about these because not only are they meeting a need I have in the classroom, but also because they will drastically reduce the amount of time it normally would take me to plan, prep and correct nightly homework.

If you choose to use them as in class work then you can eliminate prep entirely by projecting the page on your interactive whiteboard and having them record their answers on paper or dry erase boards.
