10 and 100 Less and More

This is an arctic animal themed small group task card math activity with a twist, for practicing or reviewing ten less or more and one hundred less or more than a three-digit number, 100-900. It is a perfect resource for second or third grade. This resource includes two sets of 24 task cards, each in two versions. For the first set of numbers, one version simply has numbers. The other version has the number in a partial hundred chart grid. This set can be used to practice skills in isolation. For example, practice only ten more than a number or just one hundred less and more. With the second set of numbers, the skills are mixed. One variation uses more or less and the other gives addition and subtraction equations. Each set is in color and black/ gray/ white. Students say the number and write the numbers that are 10 or 100 less or more on a recording sheet. Each task card set includes three copies of eight different arctic animal images. Students pick a card, find the matching image on their recording sheet, and write their response. Who can be the first to color all eight images? There are fourteen different recording sheets along with answer keys, in black/ white or red. I have also included a hundreds, tens and ones mat, highlighted number charts 1-1000, each hundred on a separate page, in color and black/ gray/ white, to provide support for student learning. There is also a sheet to draw the number, 10 less, 10 more, 100 less, and 100 more using squares, lines, and dots for hundreds, tens and ones. This activity is ideal for intervention or resource groups as well as independent math centers.

    Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Understand that the three digits of a three-digit number represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones; e.g., 706 equals 7 hundreds, 0 tens, and 6 ones. Understand the following as special cases:
    Count within 1000; skip-count by 5s, 10s, and 100s.
Read and write numbers to 1000 using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form.
Compare two three-digit numbers based on meanings of the hundreds, tens, and ones digits, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons.
Mentally add 10 or 100 to a given number 100–900, and mentally subtract 10 or 100 from a given number 100–900.
