Description

This packet is all you need to launch a Text Detectives Book Club. There is a case file/graphic organizer for each Common Core State Standard in Reading: Literature and Informational Text for second grade. The pack will also be great way to practice locating text evidence to support their "case."

The reading comprehension strategies in the packet come straight from the Common Core State Standards. The graphic organizers in the pack make a great review or assessment at the end of the week of your reading story for that week or for any cold read you may provide your students. Each graphic organizer is included on a full page or a half page. I like to use the half page for an official book club meeting and the full page for introduction at the beginning of the unit I am teaching that week. It’s also great for practice and review of the skills. In addition, you can use the graphic organizers to help students organize their writing.

This resource would also be great for independent reading centers. With social distancing that will be required, students can complete this with a text or passage independently. You could name the center “The Text Detective Center.”

I have also included a file of JPEGs of each case file and graphic organizer. If you are teaching virtually this year, you can insert the included JPEGs into your assignments for students. Students can type or write their responses on the graphic organizer.

The resource includes:

-Teacher Directions and Tips

-Printable magnifying glasses

-Text Detective Badges

-A friendly letter written to your class asking them to join the club

-An application to join the club

-A case file cover page for each standard

-full page and half page graphic organizers for each standard

-Directions on how to launch a book club in your classroom

-JPEGs of the file to insert into distance learning assignments

Students will love practicing their reading standards in this club. It's a huge motivator for my own students, especially when they know popcorn is involved! Thanks for stopping by!
