This quiz was created to accompany the Science A-Z version of "Sound." It includes five vocabulary words from the book (eardrum, vibrate, echo, energy, and volume). The first part of the quiz asks students to use a word list to fill in the blank with the correct vocabulary word choice. The second part requires students to draw a picture of one of the vocabulary words. This way, the teachers can quickly determine if students are just memorizing definitions or if they truly understand the word meanings. I used it for my class of 2nd graders, but it can be used for any student/class at this reading level. It can be used in reading or science and meets the following Common Core standards:
RI.2.4 Determine the meaning of words and phrases in a text relevant to a grade 2 topic or subject area.
RI.3.4 Determine the meaning of general academic and domain-specific words and phrases in a text relevant to a grade 3 topic or subject area.
L.2.4e Use glossaries and beginning dictionaries, both print and digital, to determine or clarify the meaning of words and phrases.
L.3.4d Use glossaries or beginning dictionaries, both print and digital, to determine or clarify the precise meaning of key words and phrases.
