To introduce some of the people and events involved in the rapid growth of business and industry in the United States during the post-Civil War period.
1 class period
Begin by reading with the class the introductory paragraphs.
Class members will then read paragraphs 1-10, which describe important events and developments that occurred during the Second Industrial Revolution. Each paragraph is followed by a Thought Question. Answers should have 25 to 50 words. Discuss student responses later in the period, or at the beginning of the next class period.
This lesson is very good at developing critical thinking skills.
