If you are like me, the idea of leaving your class in someone else's hands is a little scary. These maternity leave plans will help you feel confident that your students will be successful while you are away and you will return to a class that is on-track and not in chaos.
This package is best suited for a secondary class. It includes my versions of the following documents. All of them will provide you an example and base to build your maternity leave plans.
Class Information & Routines
This document lays out everything your substitute will need to know including: school systems, class structure, class routines, school procedures, class procedures, students to note, and an overview of unit plans.
Daily Lesson Outlines
This document provides a brief lesson outline for each lesson the substitute will teach. It corresponds with the calendar.
Daily Lesson Calendar
This calendar outlines the lessons for each specific day so your substitute has a clear idea of the curriculum and pacing.
Maternity Leave Parent Letter
This letter informs parents of your maternity leave plans and provides them information about your substitute.
I met with my substitute prior to beginning my leave and showed her these materials. I also provided her digital access to all my lesson materials that she would need. Doing this in advance gave her time to review the plans and materials so that she felt prepared. When I returned, it was though I never left! My students received all the same lessons they would have had I been there. What a relief!
