This includes two activities designed to teach students to recognize words that have the same meaning. Specific vocabulary cards are provided for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade.
In the Basic activity three words are presented. Two words have the same meaning; one has the opposite meaning of the two. The student is asked to identify the word that does not have the same meaning.
In the Sentence activity two sentences are presented. The student is asked to identify the sentence that reflects an incorrect meaning. The vocabulary presented in the Sentence activity is the same vocabulary as that in the Basic card set.
This set includes:
36 cards for What Doesn’t Belong - Basic (12 each for 3rd,
4th, and 5th grade levels – denoted by number in lower left
corner of cards) Slides 5 – 7 or 11 - 13
36 cards for What Doesn’t Belong - Sentences (12 each for
3rd, 4th, and 5th grade levels – denoted by number in lower
left corner of cards) Slides 8 – 10 or 14 - 16

The Basic and Sentence level cards are provided with and without the secret agent image. The cards with no image may be more appropriate for your older students.
Play Without Cariboo:
Choose the cards you wish to use (Basic, Sentences, or mix
Add the 9 Secret Agent shield cards to the stack and shuffle.
Place the cards face down on the table. Choose a student to
take a card from the top of the stack.
Read aloud the card.
If the card is a Secret Agent shield card the student keeps the
card and play moves to the next student.
The student that pulls your choice of the last (9th) Secret Agent
shield card, or the most Secret Agent shield cards, is the official
Secret Agent (winner).
Play with Cariboo
Choose the cards you wish to use. (Basic, Sentences, or mix the
Place the secret agent cards in a random numerical order in the
Cariboo game doors.
Place the Basic / Sentence….. cards face down on the table.
Choose a student to take a card from the top of the stack.
Read aloud the card.
If the student answers correctly he/she opens a door on the
Cariboo board. Open the doors in correct numerical order to
prevent peeking and choosing a door.
If the student answers incorrectly, play passes to the next
Alternate method of play:
Include the Secret Agent shield cards in the card stack.
If a student pulls a Secret Agent shield card he/she can open a
door without having to respond to a task card.
