It’s important for young students to be able to identify and draw shapes accurately. Unfortunately, it can be tedious to try to teach elementary children how to draw basic shapes when it’s not brand new information.
In order to review drawing basic shapes with a twist, teach students how to write in a secret code! This PowerPoint has simple animation that shows students how to draw shapes, including squares, triangles, rectangles, and circles. The emphasis will be on drawing the shapes correctly so the students’ codes work. (Students will need to practice drawing circles that look clearly different from ovals and so forth.) In the end, students will be able to write their names and write messages in the code.
This download includes a PowerPoint presentation and a PDF art lesson plan. No preparation is necessary for this one day activity.
