Make sight words fun again as your students take on the role of a sight word detective! As the students crack the code, they will be practicing their sight words as well as their phonics skills. To crack the code, students choose a card and determine what the initial sound of each picture is. Once they figure out all of the picture's initial sounds, they will reveal a sight word. The students can then record the sight words on the recording sheet for extra practice.
If you would like to incorporate this activity into your literacy centers or Daily 5 rotations, you can laminate them and attach them using a binder ring. The students could then use dry-erase markers, bottle caps with letters written on them, letter tiles, or magnetic letters to crack the code!
