Have fun sorting valentines while targeting speech sounds, including: /k/, /g/, /f/, j/, /l/, /r/, /s/, /v/, /z/, /ch/, /sh/, /j/. Izzy Initial, Mikey Medial, and Frannie Final are all waiting for their valentines to be delivered and it’s your job to make sure the right valentines get in the right mailbox by deciding if the target sound on the valentine is in the initial, medial, or final position of words. There may even be surprise valentines for yourself!
This Activity Includes:
3 Mailbox Sorting Boards
Total of 288 articulation cards: 24 articulation cards (8 for each position of word) per target sound (/k/, /g/, /f/, /j/, /l/, /r/, /s/, /v/, /z/, /ch/, /sh/, /j/)
16 Secret Valentine Cards
Choose desired target sound(s) and place in a pile upside down on the tabletop and make sure the position of the sounds are mixed. Mix in the secret valentine cards in with your target sound cards. Place the three mailbox sorting boards face up on the table. Have students take turns drawing the top card and have them listen to the word (as well as practice the word!) and decide if the valentine goes to Izzy Initial, Mikey Medial, or Frannie Final by having the student tell you which position of the word their target sound is in. If the students draw and receive a secret valentine, they get to keep that card. At the end of the game, the students count up their secret valentines and who ever has the most secret valentines wins!
