This product was designed to help 4th and 7th grade students (the high stakes writing test takers) in Texas become aware of ineffective writing tricks that many of them were taught to use as opening hooks as young writers. This PowerPoint addresses the dangers of:
1.) Restating the question
2.) Onomatopoeia openings
3.) Abuse of ALL CAPS AND UNNECESSARY PUNCTUATION!!!!!
The product provides examples of "bad" writing that utilizes these shortcuts and it offers examples that do not rely heavily on familiar formulas.
Warning: This presentation was not designed for emergent writers who may still rely on these tricks.
Summer 2015 Update: A revised file that replaces much of the full caps stenciled text font with a more traditional font has been added. It's the file labeled "Font Style B."
