How can we help our students develop science content knowledge and support reading and literacy? The answer is guided labs through literature!
Science literacy comes in the form of reading and writing about the science concepts in ways that expand thinking. This lab is designed to guide student through a story while accessing the science concept through exploration.
In pairs, students read a story that guides them through the history of the earth and the formation of sedimentary rocks and fossil fuel formation (TEKS 5.7A) As the students read the story they are directed to conduct parts of the lab and reflect different parts of the story. By the end of the lab, students walk away with their own sedimentary rock formation including fossil fuels.
