Rocks: Sedimentary Rocks
This packet contains a close-read on the formation and types of sedimentary rocks. Clastic, chemical, and organic sedimentary rocks are discussed, as well as other various ways of identifying them. Student comprehension questions included with teacher answer key.
A close reading analogy is included that explains why not all samples of a rock look the same. Students LOVE this analogy and it's a great integration of literacy into your science unit. Comprehension/ discussion questions included.
An identification chart is included for use in your identication lab. Student recording sheet included. Rocks not included.
Sorting sheets included. Please see preview for these. These are meant to be laminated and are used for student practice in identifying sedimentary rocks. My students LOVED this activity. After reviewing each rock that you identify, do the rock sorting activity the day after, you will be STUNNED at how much they remember. Also sort by sedimentary rock type for review.
These are GREAT HANDS-ON activities. Have students rotate tables, quiz each other, and use for review. My principal walked in on students doing this activity and was BLOWN away at how good they were at it and how much FUN they had while doing it. It's a win/win activity.
