Have your students document how a bean grows in their own bean journal made from a file folder. This is a 5 page activity where students will document how their beans grow. They will draw a picture of what their bean looks like each day and draw a description of it. The cover page is a bean sprouting into a plant. Have students color and cut the bean cover page and glue it on the front of their file folder.
Give each student an uncooked bean or put the students into groups and give each group a bean. Have the students observe their bean and document what they see on day 1. Then have them put their bean inside the zip lock bag and place with a wet paper towel (make sure to keep the paper towel always moist) Place by a window to get some sun. Continue this for several days you may want to skip some days to give the bean time to grow.
uncooked beans (have a different kinds so students can compare them)
paper towels or cotton
*Prior to the activity the file folders need to be prepared. Each student should have a prepare file folder with the growth documents stapled inside. Great to have a parent to volunteer to make them for you.
