After reading Seedfolks, students write individually to create a character. They can do this digitally in Google Docs and the teacher can combine the documents into a “Seedfolks Sequel,” or they can use a standalone program like Microsoft Word or even write by hand. You may also hold a cover design competition. The class can choose and vote on a title for the book, or you could simply title it “Seedfolks 2.” You could also choose to print the “book” and give each student a copy.
The lesson contains worksheets to scaffold the students' writing, as well as links to exemplars and suggested teaching methods and research links. Timing will vary depending on the level of your students. This lesson could take 3 90-minute classes or 5 to 6 45-minute classes.
