This Seeing Sight Words PowerPoint Presentations were designed to train a student to explore options when seeing a word. Because the mind will be trained not to assign a meaning immediately, reading becomes a continual process of searching and finding the right fit. Just as the right puzzle piece must be found to produce the correct picture, the mind will be trained to find the right meaning and not use the first one that pops up. Once the student develops this new approach to learning words and reading, their comprehension and reading abilities will make a remarkable improvement.
Although originally intended as a supplement to assist deaf and hard of hearing students in reading with accurate comprehension, the daily use of the Seeing Sight Words PowerPoints will benefit every student. Students with a hearing loss must associate a meaning with a word to accurately produce an American Sign Language (ASL) sign for the given sight word. Following the Adapted Dolch Word List established by Fairview Learning, these PowerPoints uses vibrant visuals and sentence context clues to associate meaning with sight words. Totaling all the levels, 213 words are given for students to learn. However, at least 511 ASL signs, meanings, or uses of the word must be learned for accurate comprehension of those 213 words.
Included in these PowerPoints are 511 sight word slides and 511 complementing sentence slides created to provide students a pathway to “seeing clearly.” The sentence slides give students an opportunity to guess the correct sight word that belongs in the sentence. After a mouse click, the correct sight word is revealed. Even though the sight word may be repeated in several sentences, the meanings will often differ.
Download these Seeing Sight Words PowerPoints now and allow your students to benefit from visually seeing multiple meanings of sight words produced on a consistent basis. In just a few minutes a day, their minds will adapt to search for comprehension clues when reading and quickly reviewing the possibilities before settling on a meaning of a word.
The Seeing Sight Words PowerPoint is available in two versions. The automatic version of these PowerPoints advances the word slides without prompting. However, the sentence slides require prompting to advance in both versions.
