PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Hands-on, engaging practice focuses students’ attention to chunks of words as they use highlighting markers, draw, sort, write, and manipulate print. 48 pages of practice (at, or ar, ea, ing, etc).
Perfect for independent seat work, small group instruction or centers in 1st or 2nd grade or struggling readers.
Students begin by looking for chunks in one syllable words, and then gradually read simple two syllable words.
Research shows that seeing chunks or known parts in words is more beneficial for readers than looking at words letter by letter. Frustrated that our early readers were not applying phonic skills, we designed this product to build automaticity and efficient use of word parts/chunks while reading. They needed to use KNOWN parts of KNOWN WORDS in order to read UNKNOWN words. Classroom observations revealed that our readers could read the unknown words if WE broke it apart, however, they did not seem confident breaking the words by themselves while reading. This product allows your readers to build flexibility in reading and writing.
