Sometimes a teacher needs to break up the routine a bit when it comes to reading and writing lessons. This is the perfect activity. In this zip file is a deck of twenty-four PowerPoint slides with twenty images of Norman Rockwell’s paintings and a few slides explaining the activity to students. Along with the deck of slides, there is a complementary worksheet. On it, I have listed the titles of the paintings, not in the order that students see them on the slides. In effect, they are presented with a matching activity. The teacher explains the activity with the aid of the first couple of slides and then cycles through the slide deck. The students—individually, in partnerships, or in small groups—“see the details” and then match the title of the painting with the image of the painting. I have included an answer key for your convenience.
