Beginning with an idea from Montessori, this number line uses paper strips of different lengths to make a new value. Additionally, learners can see how much a number is by looking at the number line above, the paper strip in the middle and the value 'in dots' for each number below the space for the strip.
By laying two strips onto the number line you can see both how much each strips is worth and find the total of the two numbers.
I find it best to use card for this so that it is more robust. Each set takes four pages to be complete.
