This lesson builds vocabulary and phonemic awareness by segmenting words into phonemes (sound units). In 24 pages, the child will
• preview the letter sounds /c/ and /r/,
• preview eight one-syllable words: Curt, calls, cat, cow, Roy, room, runs, and rests,
• read the words in sentences,
• segment phonemes in words using picture blocks and letters,
• identify and read sight words in phrases and sentences,
• answer literal comprehension questions, and
• trace color-coded letters and words.
The activities are aligned to the following standards:

RF.2.2c: Blend and segment onsets and rimes of single-syllables in spoken words.
RF.2.2d: Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in three-phoneme (CVC) words.

This guided-reading pack is the second lesson of Book 14
