Segmenting syllables in words is an important step in developing phonological awareness. This resource includes six activities that give your kindergartners hands on practice.
Say and Clip Cards
Syllable Sort – students will cut and glue the picture to the correct number of syllables
Syllable game where students will draw a card, clap out the number of syllables and move the number of spaces
Syllable Sort – students will sort the picture card into 1-4 number of syllables
Write the Room activity – students will find the card, clap out the syllables and color in the number of syllables
Dauber Activity – students will say the word and use the dauber to indicate number of syllables
Sort the objects – I have provided mats for syllables 1-4. You must provide miniature objects that can be sorted on the mats.
Clap and Build – students will say the picture and build the number of unifix cubes to indicate the syllables. The mats provided are perfect to use for back to school, fall, Thanksgiving and Winter.
