Segmenting and blending phonemes fall under the foundational skill of phonemic awareness, an early indicator of reading success. This product can be used whole group or small group. I like to load it to the Books app on my iPad. The teacher can provide the phonemes (sounds) and the students can blend the word (with or without picture support). Also, the teacher can say the word or show the picture and have students segment the phonemes. The student pages at the end can be used for station work, extension, or informal assessment. This product features mixed practice with short vowels and picture support.
