After lessons (or before and after), have students hold up 1 through 5 fingers to show their understanding of the lesson topic. This resource gives you a very quick idea of how the topic is going. You will instantly know how to break up into small groups or plan for review. This is a great tool to use in addition to your more formal assessment tools. I have found that students are honest with their self-assessment, and it makes me smile when they hold up 10 fingers which is completely off the chart!
