Reading Notebook Rubrics
The rubrics included in this resource are deigned to boost student accountability during workshop each day, regardless of the workshop curriculum or approach you use. I recommend having students glue the rubric to the inside front cover of their notebook so they can use it as a reference during workshop each day. I also recommend using the same rubric to grade your students on a regular basis so they receive consistent feedback about the their work quality and learning progress. These rubrics are editable and can be used as a starting point for creating rubrics for other subject areas as well. Ready-to-print versions also included.

BENEFITING STUDENTS
Reflecting on learning and progress fosters more rapid student growth. Introducing these tools and modeling your expectations for use will set the tone for routine self-reflection, resulting in students who are more invested in their learning journey. Using the same rubric descriptions during student conferences and while providing feedback in your classroom makes assessment scores and feedback more meaningful and easier for students to understand. When everyone is on the same page with expectations for reaching different levels of understanding, students become more motivated and successful.

BOOSTING RIGOR
Using a rubric gives students a clear picture of what it takes to demonstrate each level of understanding. Consistently referring to your rubric as you confer with students, provide feedback, and give them time to reflect on their current levels of understanding helps them reach to perform at a higher level.

SACFFOLDING & DIFFERENETIATION MADE EASY
Use the ”Letters of Reflection” prompts to support students as they learn to navigate rubrics when scoring their own work. Alongside each prompt, a sample letter is provided to scaffold students as they become more independent with reflecting on work.

SAVING TIME
With ready-to-print, and editable options for each rubric and label, you can implement these systems in your classroom tomorrow, or tweak them as needed.
