This is a self-checking short vowel blending activity.
To prepare, print the cards on cardstock and cut them out. Cut the end off an envelope so it is about 6 1/2 inches long.
Place selected cards in the envelope.
The student plays by slowly pulling a card out, making the sounds as he/she goes. When students see the row of stars, have them stop and say the word.
After blending the sounds to make the word, students remove the card from the envelope to see the picture and check themselves.
I like to have students work with a partner. One child is the "teacher" and slowly pulls the card out. The other child blends the sounds and says the word. Kids enjoy taking turns being the "teacher."
The game includes 40 blending cards, 8 for each of the short vowel sounds.
This game can easily be copied and sent home with students who need a little extra practice.
I hope your kids enjoy this game as much as mine do!
