Description

Self-compassion is when we show ourselves kindness during times of suffering, failure, and when we feel inadequate.

Self-compassion is a skill we develop. For some children, self-compassion can be difficult to practice. They struggle with being kind to themselves and instead bully and berate themselves through negative self-talk.

They need specific interventions to learn how to accept their flaws and celebrate their strengths. One way to do this is through journaling.

Journaling is a great way for adolescents to engage in self-reflection and self-discovery. Writing down their thoughts, feelings, dreams, etc. gives them insight into who they are and who they want to become.

This self-compassion journal is designed to get adolescents to think about how they treat themselves. They are asked to explore their thoughts, feelings, and beliefs. They are also guided to give themselves permission to accept their shortcomings instead of criticizing their flaws.

Benefits of Practicing Self-Compassion

When adolescents learn to practice self-compassion they are better able to:
Handle disappointments
Bounce back from failure
