Product Description

Teach and practice self-control with over 100 task cards that highlight social situations. The cards focus on self-control through scenarios with managing emotions, thinking before we speak, and managing our behaviors. Strong self-control is a critical social skill that helps kids and young adults make good social choices for now and in the future.

These cards encourage students to think about a situation and determine what they should do. For example: "You see a balloon taped to someone else's locker. You want to pop it. What should you do?" These questions help students think about scenarios, improving their ability to process situations and improve their self-control!

Why Teach Self-Control

Self-control is a critical skill that helps us manage our thoughts, words, actions, and emotions. Teaching self-control can help kids and young adults learn to stop and think before making a decision. In turn, this helps learners to make better choices for now and in the future.

While all learners can benefit from improving their skills with self-control, these cards are specifically helpful for students who are impulsive or struggle with social situations.

How to Use the Task Cards

The task cards can be used in guided small groups, as part of class discussions, or in partner discussion before sharing out with the larger group or class. You can also choose to have "centers" by putting a set of cards in each center and having groups move around to discuss and answer questions. It is best to partner students in need up with peer role models. Regular education teachers, special education teachers, and other support professionals could all benefit from using these task cards with their students.

Note that both color and black/white options are included! Answer keys are also included with sample answers for each of the cards. Of course, individual student answers may vary.
