Use these self-correcting/self-checking cards to have students practice reading words with r-controlled vowels. This set focuses on AR words of one or more syllables.
Place cards in a standard letter envelope with one end slit open, or in a long coin envelope. The end of the cards with the words on them should be peeking out of the envelope.
Students pull out the top card just until they can see the stars. They read the word, then pull the rest of the card out to see the picture and check if they were right.
These are great as an independent or partner activity during literacy time. I also use them to create phonics-oriented word walls, or send a set home as a resource for parents to use with their children like flash cards.
Includes 57 word/picture cards, from aardvark and arm to Mars and marshmallow to yard.
