Self-Esteem Lesson "What I Like About Me" w 4 video links PBIS Diversity Tolerance
Amazon.com Description of “What I Like About Me”: “This fun-loving book proves to kids that, in a world where fitting in is the norm, being different is what makes us special.
The kids in What I Like About Me! are as different as night and day. And, guess what? They love it. Some adore the fact that their braces dazzle and gleam, others feel distinguished when they wear their glasses. Still others wouldn't trade their big feet for a lifetime of free video games. A mylar mirror embedded in the last page let kids take a look at themselves and decide what they like best about themselves.”
There is a quote that I love that says, “You cannot make children behave by making them feel worse. When children feel better, they behave better.” Self-esteem is a large and necessary component of every counseling program. When kids feel better about themselves, they are more accepting of others and willing to try new things.
Using this presentation for your guidance lesson, you can easily help students to identify the special things about themselves and understand the importance of valuing the diversity that we have in our world. By appreciating the differences between us, tolerance of these differences is encouraged. It also covers the related topic of having confidence.
This presentation has 16 slides and includes a link to a video of the book, “What I Like About Me” being read aloud. The video runs approximately 3:30 minutes. It also has links to THREE OTHER videos that are directly related and are appropriate for older student audiences.
The presentation includes background information on self-esteem and the benefits of good self-esteem.
Two activities (including the masters for the activities, if needed) are included at the end of the presentation. If you prefer, you can purchase the masters in my store, but if you can copy and paste, you don’t need to do this.
I would schedule 30-45 minutes for this lesson.
The PowerPoint is customizable and has a master slide that can be copied to make your own slides to personalize the lesson for your students and teaching style. The presentation includes both animations and transitions to hold your students' interest. Make your lesson come alive for your students and help them to connect to the concept in a fun way that will help them to remember the important lessons you need for them to remember.
