Self-Image Unit — Lesson 4 — Advice Column — Students will apply skills learned in Lesson 2 and 3 by portraying the role of an advice columnist. Their responsibility is to give advice to Miss Hurt & Confused helping her make choices (to rebuild self-confidence, self-esteem etc), based on her future goals not on current feelings.
The students relate to these stories because they are similar to the stories within their network of family and friends. As a result, the kids become more involved in thinking through their advice. You will find, 1. their advice will be just as good, if not better than the experts, and their discussions are worthwhile for both teacher and student.
The Complete Self-Image unit contains 4 Lessons and a variety of supplemental materials, plus one optional activity. All lessons meet the National Health Standard and have clearly defined Daily Learning Targets/Objectives. Each lesson can be used for grades 8-12, and Homeschoolers. The Unit is designed to take 3 to 4 days to complete (Classes are 55 minutes).
