This is a terrific self-portrait art activity that I use to teach colour choice, colouring, space and critiquing. This is an entire unit on a particular style of art and art elements, it is not simply instructions for an activity. This can easily take five weeks of 80 minute art periods.
In this unit, students will make a self-portrait piece that can be hung around the classroom for parent night. This makes an easy and fun piece that can be done anytime during the school year but is easily impressive in the first week. It also means that even if you have no art background you can do this!
Included in the unit:
Instructions for a lesson all about a historical artist and discussion points to have with students.
Explanation about art
Interactive art notebook with colour anchor chart and practice piece
Student exemplars of the anchor chart
Checklist for explanation
Rubric for art
Student examples plus critiques for each one
If you like this piece please rate and review. Also if you are looking for more art pieces to continue your interactive art notebooks check out my graffiti art that focuses on the art element of value. Having all of the elements of art will make you look like an art pro and you will never have to learn any art skills!
