Learn about self control and self regulation with the LEGO Characters! This is a great lesson to use to supplement the Zones of Regulation, by Leah M. Kuypers.
This is a very easy lesson with almost no prep work! Just print out the LEGO characters and cut them out, you can laminate them if you plan on reusing them. (If you do laminate them, have the children decorate them with dry erase markers so that they can be reused)! Or you can laminate them afterwards to preserve your students hard work.
When teaching this lesson, I put all of the picture cards into a "mystery emotions box" and have each student select a card. After coloring their card, they can come to the front of the group and present their card by telling 1) a time when they felt this emotion, and 2) what they did or what they think a better choice would have been. I also use clips from the LEGO movie to supplement, and show examples of when the characters demonstrate certain emotions.
This is a great way to begin developing self regulation, as the first step is being able to correctly identify emotions! Hope you enjoy it!
