This is a product that I utilize with my class to assess their reading comprehension and response to literature during self-selected reading time. Each nine weeks, the students are given a menu. They are asked to complete three activities from the menu (you can be more specific and request that they make a tic-tac-toe as well). After they read a chapter book or after they have read a good number of picture books (depending on their reading level), they choose an activity to complete. At the end of the 9 weeks, I meet with each child and assess their menu for a reading grade. Included in this product is a rubric that can be used to assess students' menus and their behavior during SSR time (if they are picking just right books, if they are on task during SSR, etc.). I find this document works for me because it keeps my kids accountable and on task during silent reading time! I hope you find it useful as well!
