Help your students keep track of the new words they learn while reading by using this handy spreadsheet. Here's how I use it in my classroom: each quarter, students record 15 new or unfamiliar words they learn through their independent reading. They determine the meaning of those words through a variety of methods, such as context clues, using a dictionary, asking a parent, etc. At the end of each quarter, students do a project to show that they have added those words to their vocabulary. This is a great tool for helping students to take control of their own learning and vocabulary development.
