These three activities, best conducted over two sessions, have been designed for a classroom setting but they can be easily modified for use with individuals.
The first activity, I Am… challenges participants to examine what their self-talk says about their self-images. They discover how optimistic or pessimistic they are about themselves.
They realize and transform their limiting beliefs during the next activity, A Nice Network, by comparing their thinking with a social network, counteracting the negative thinking with positive, and using visualization strategies.
The third activity, Skit Out!, has the participants teaching each other about unhelpful thinking patterns via skits.
These activities are from the Self-Talk module in my book, “Smile Inside: Experiential Activities for Self-Awareness Ages 12-13“.
