A three-part checklist that gives students 20 specific steps to complete in order to polish their fiction writing.
Students check off each step as they complete it, looking at areas like spelling, punctuation, capitalization, organization, plausible/believable details, and originality, and make improvements to their writing as they go.
Stories are shared with a partner for peer editing. The same checklist is used by the partner who can highlight areas of concern as they complete and mark off each step on the checklist.
Partners also rank how the story performs in each area. This portion can also be used for teacher evaluation instead.
This form structures the editing process for students, giving them some guidance when it comes to looking over their own work and the work of others.
