Do you want to encourage students to value their own and others' inner traits over physical appearance? Students today are very familiar with selfies. Unfortunately, Selfies are very much about what one looks like. The original poem and activities in this resource encourage students to look beyond their own and others' physical appearance.
Use the poem and accompanying pages to have students write about inner traits or qualities. After reading and analyzing the poem during a shared or close reading lesson, students will examine important and admirable inner traits. First, students write about themselves. Later, they can repeat the activity to look at their friends' finer qualities.
The final products may be used to create an awesome bulletin board or class book to display at Open House!
