THE SECOND SEMESTER OF US HISTORY

THE WHOLE YEAR OF US HISTORY

The Civil Rights Movement was so pivotal in creating more opportunities for African Americans, Latinos and Native Americans. This unit begins with Jackie Robinson and goes all the way to the 1960;s highlighting the key events of the Civil Rights movement. Also included are 4 short videos to emphasize some of the key points made on the slides and throughout the Civil Rights movement. Following the Civil RIghts PPT there are 2 assignments to conclude the unit with some follow up to what was learned in class.

This is just like the assignment posted below but includes the SELMA video guide.

Here is what is included:
- 37 slide PPT
- Civil Rights activities
- Videos for PPT
- Selma Video Guide

**At the 1'00 mark there is an inappropriate part that I would fast forward.

42 Video Guide with Curriculum for Civil Rights

1. SELMA This is a guide that I put together for the Movie Selma. This is the cheap version as I will be adding to this and making this much more thorough. Key is included.

It has the following things:

-Character list- Students will have to fill in as they go along
-23 questions for the students to answer
-A comparative essay - the students will get to compare and contrast MLK and Malcolm X.
-Discussion questions for after the film. ( 7 questions)

I purchased the video on Amazon and highly recommend that route as it is fast easy and cheap.

2. 1960's Civil Rights PPT: The Civil Rights movement helped change the landscape of America regarding where people lived and what they do. This is one of my best presentations as it is 37 slide PPT. It covers what happened with African Americans, Native Americans, and Latinos regarding Civil Rights. (3 days)

3. Civil Rights Assignments: I like to give the students the actually literacy test that the people took to vote in the 1950's. The first assignment is the Literacy test and the second assignment is a what would you do type of assignment after teaching about the Civil Rights movement. Both assignments take 2.5 days to complete.

42 Video Guide with Curriculum for Civil Rights

4. Stanford Lesson Plan: This is a lesson I like to start with after doing the direct teaching regarding the Civil Rights movement. I don't call it common core but digging into history.
