The Selma to Montgomery March Webquest with Key- this is an 8 page document that contains a webquest and a completed teachers key for easy marking. It contains 14 questions from the history.com website.
Students will be asked to watch several videos which will provide a history of the organization of the march, "Bloody Sunday", and the eventual successful march from Selma, Alabama to Montgomery. An article with a detailed accounting of this historic civil rights event is also required reading before beginning the webquest. The disenfranchisement of black voters in Alabama, the several attempted marches on Montgomery which ended in violence, the attack on protesters at the Edmund Pettus bridge, the murder of James Reeb, the eventual success of the march, and the passing of the Voting Rights Act, are all covered in this activity.
