Product Description
Have your students engaged with this hands-on sensory bin for February! The skill worked on is segmenting short vowel CVC words (RF.K.2 & RF.1.2).

This product is similar to my other sensory bin for October. However, this product uses different CVC words.

Provided is a colored set as well as a black and white set, depending on your printing availability. Print on card stock and laminate for durability. Cut the cards up and place in a tub filled with seasonal objects for the students to feel and explore. Included in the set is a list of some fillers that I have used personally in my classroom that work great and are easy clean up! Also included in this sensory bin are student recording sheets. You can either print off for each student to take home to show their parents or simply place them in a plastic sleeve and use dry erase markers!

During the students time working in this sensory bin they will break down the word using the candy corn pictures into each sound the student hears (/c/-/a/-/t/). Then they will slide the finger across the candy corn to read the word.

Below is the list of short vowel CVC words that are provided in this activity:
-at: mat, bat (sport)
-ap: cap, map
-ag: wag, bag
-ad: dad, mad
-ed: wed
-eg: leg, peg
-et: vet, wet, net
-em: hem, gem
-in: bin, pin
-id: kid
-ib: rib
-ix: mix, six
-ig: wig, dig
-ob: cob, sob
-od: pod, rod
-ox: box, fox
-op: top, pop
-ud: mud
-ub: cub, sub
-ug: jug, rug
-ut: cut, hut, nut

Common Core Aligned:

Demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of print.

Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes).
