For students who:
-Might be averse to the idea of taking breaks when heightened/dysregulated, (some have come to associate it with getting in trouble)
-Don't use appropriate sensory strategies when the do take a break
-Don't initiate breaks when becoming heightened/dysregulated and require staff to prompt them.
This song can be really helpful! (especially for those kids who are musically inclined!)
I made this for a student (on the autism spectrum) who we were trying to get to use his sensory strategies when he would become heightened. He does not attend to visual stimuli well, but is very attentive to music so this took the place of a social narrative. Contact me if you would like the recording. Also FYI - the "hot dog" mentioned in the song is sensory equipment not the food! Switch the words to be whatever sensory strategies are available to your student.
