Once you have taught them about their 5 senses, teach them to recognize sensory words using this learning center. You can also use this learning center to introduce sensory writing.
The following contains 5 panels. Each panel represents 1 of the 5 senses. The students must take the words from the word or phrases from the word list and place them on the correct panel. Some words may be able to be placed on more than one panel.
This simple activity will get your lower elementary students to think about their 5 senses. From here, you may even begin to introduce descriptive writing.
I recommend printing the panels off on cardstock and laminating them. This way you can use them over and over again. Next, you can either make copies of the word list and distribute them to each of your students or you can laminate the words and cut them out yourself. You can then place them in a plastic bag and have your students to sort them.
