and I have them pick 3 cards and then verbally create a sentence using the cards...they LOVE it! So if they pick: boy, tree, run...they might say,"The boy runs to the tree."

♥ 36 Color coded picture cards with words to give ideas to answer the question Who? (These are green to represent the beginning of a sentence).
♥ 36 picture cards with words to give ideas to answer the question Is doing what? ( These are yellow to represent the middle of a sentence).
♥ 36 Color coded picture cards with words to give ideas to answer the question Where? (These are red to represent the end of a sentence).
♥ 15 Frames to support organization of sentences. One set of frames extends the sentence to encourage children to answer the question Why? Using the words, because, but, so. (This would then have the students answering Who, Did What, Where and Why to create a detailed sentence).
♥ Differentiated by frames to encourage children at their level.

Additional Materials Needed:
♥ You will have to set up baskets, boxes, envelopes to place the cards with the words in to use and write Who, Is doing what, Where, Why on the front. You can write conjunctions: because, so, but or just leave that one empty for the children to create conjunctions to use in there sentences.

♥ As a game where you randomly give out parts of sentences and children have to walk around and find other children with the missing parts to make a complete sentence. Then with a signal chime etc., the children have to sit with their group and the teacher facilitates each group taking turns to share their sentence. You can also make it random and have children meet up, write their sentence and then switch at a signal and find another group. They would keep moving until they found and have written 3 sentences and then share out.
