Help students build syntax skills and expand their use of compound sentences through the use of this sentence combining activity. The work itself becomes the motivator as students are rewarded with their “language product” (a compound sentence) which appears at the exact moment they have formulated the correct sentence (by flipping to the next slide!).
CLINICAL TARGET MASH-UP: Don’t miss out on opportunities to discuss that when it comes to sentence formulation, there is typically no correct answer! Slight adjustments in the way we integrate information together may (or may not!) change the overall meaning. Although the answer is “set” within this activity, it does not mean there is only one! Have fun applauding your students on the novel sentences they create. Consider using text tools to match verbal responses to text and work with students to compare/contrast or edit sentences.
