FREE SENTENCE COMPREHENSION ACTIVITY
A companion activity for “The Lonely Little Sea Shell” by Beth Carter
Use the picture cards and sentences in a variety of ways to target expressive and receptive language as well as literacy skills. Possible activities: Copy the pictures onto cardstock and laminate to use a manipulatives. For younger children read each sentence with the cards visible (vary the number of cards presented according to child’s ability level) and have the child locate the picture that corresponds to the sentence. For older children have the sentences printed on card stock and have the child read the sentences and match the sentence to the illustration. Show the card to the child and read the sentence aloud. Have the child repeat the sentence to demonstrate auditory processing and memory skills. You can add additional details to make the sentences longer for older children.
