Sentence Detective Editing Practice
This Sentence Detective workbook is a great way to get young writers thinking metacognitively. Students find mistakes in a sentence, write it correctly, total the number of errors, and then analyze the mistakes. The sentences utilize beginning sight words so the cognitive demand is placed not on reading but on editing.
The workbook features 20 sentences with basic spelling, capitalization and punctuation errors. With regular editing practice students will begin examining their own writing and monitoring for mistakes independently.
