[CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.K.2—Using writing to compose informative/explanatory texts in which they name what they are writing about and supply some information about the topic.]
Students are able to learn how to focus their writing on a particular topic or theme and are prompted to brainstorm to reinforce elements of their writing process. The finished writings can also be colored by the student to display in the classroom or at home.
This exercise also considers reading standard CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RI.K.2 [With prompting and support, identify the main topic and retell key details of a text]. You may pair students together and allow them to read each others work, helping them to identify the main topic, and key details of the text. You may also choose some exemplary work, and conduct the exercise with the whole class.
By conducting this exercise at least once a month, both the teacher and parent can easily track the student’s progress through comparative assessment.
