The goal of this literacy center is for young students to become comfortable identifying, distinguishing, and writing
statements, questions, and exclamations.
Included in this download are an 'I Can' poster for the Center itself, posters to define and describe Statements, Questions, and Exclamations, 15 different sentences, comprised of five statements, five questions, and five exclamations. Students will sort sentences according to their type, and then rewrite statements, questions, and exclamations on their recording sheet. I’ve included 15 *different* sentences that are missing punctuation. Students will choose the correct punctuation card and add it to the sentence. Then, they can write correctly punctuated sentences on a separate recording sheet. I have also included additional practice pages for brainstorming and writing statements, questions, and exclamations and identifying different sentence types.
I have also included a BONUS activity called Chit Chat. It is a partner activity, in which students work together to write a dialogue between two characters. This provides a fantastic (and authentic) opportunity to practice writing statements, questions, and exclamations and using them appropriately in dialogue.
To prepare, all you need to do is print on cardstock, cut out, and laminate. After that, you are set!
Thanks for stopping by!
