What educators are saying
Description
These mini-poster references help students answer text dependent analysis questions and cite text evidence from reading passages. These textual evidence writing stems (sentence stems), which are the beginnings of sentences, help students develop high-quality answers when responding to text questions for TDA (text-dependent analysis).
Using the RACE or RACES strategy? Perfect! These sentence starters work perfectly with the RACES method of constructed response writing.

You receive 2 SETS of 24 evidence stems (or sentence starters) to help students put their thoughts and answers into words. The two sets contain similar sentence stems, but the quote bubbles are different - choose your favorite!
What's included:
- 2 SETS of 24 black and white mini-posters (2 mini-posters are on one 8 1/2" x 11" page)
- 24 reference cards - white with black lettering (4 to a page)
- Student reference bookmarks in 4 colors (4 to a page)
Print these mini-posters onto brightly colored paper for a quick and easy bulletin board. These mini-posters and reference cards include direct and indirect quotations, and the reference cards have an example of the writing stem in action.
A page containing tips that I've used in my own upper elementary through middle school classes is included, along with an explanation of the posters labeled "Connectors."
UPDATED 1/17/2022 - this set now contains two sets of posters. The two sets are similar, but the shapes of the speech bubbles are different. Bookmarks for students to reference were also added with this update.

Use these mini-posters and task cards in a variety of ways. Because there are so many possible evidence-based writing stems, the mini-poster size makes them easier to display in most classrooms. There are two mini-posters on each 8½ x 11-inch sized page.
Often students can find the answers in the text, but they aren't sure how to put their thoughts into words. This quick and easy bulletin board and reference cards give students a jump start by eliminating uncertainty and providing confidence.
