Pretest, posttest, flipping books, flash cards, editable lesson plan

Sentence structure is an important part of connecting grammar to writing. Students must properly punctuate types of sentences as well as use simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences with purpose. This sentence structure bundle provides a variety of tools and materials for scaffolding grammar.

Students often struggle to identify types of sentences or basic sentence structures. Standards ask students to use simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences. Many questions on standardized tests focus on punctuating different types of sentences. Finally, students need to apply the basic principles of types of sentences to their writing.

I created this presentation, pretest, scaffolded activities, and post test to help my students for sentence structure lessons. This material is in PDF form as well as digital formats. You may use this sentence structure material on your learning platforms.

    This sentence structure bundle includes:

✩ A grammar Powerpoint with 24 slides. They cover the definitions of the types of sentences and provide examples. Students are given hints to use when deciding types of sentences, and then practice sentences.

✩ A six page lesson planning guide—completely editable.

✩ A pretest and post test (editable).

✩ A flipping book and flash cards for choice in studying.

✩ Students note taking sheets: Sheets for students to take notes as the Powerpoint plays.

✩ Scaffolded practice activities that build with difficulty in studying sentence structure (the types of sentences):

    - Worksheets

    - Grammar sorts

    - Station work

    - Task cards

    - Additional presentation for scaffolding (breaks down subjects and verbs)

✩ Four worksheets for students to analyze types of sentences. These worksheets are intended for in-depth discussion to reach the standards concerning application of sentence structure in writing. Students will discover ways that types of sentences are used, analyze a sentence from a story, and analyze a sentence from their own writing. This portion is NOT connected to the rest of the activities. It works perfectly as an extension activity.

✩ Answer keys for the practice sentences.

    Perfect for. . .

Great activities for reviewing sentence structure. My students appreciated the hands-on practice rather than another boring worksheet.

This is a fabulous resource to use before any writing unit! My students were better prepared to write complete sentences and paragraphs! Thank you!

Amazing! My students were struggling with this and this helped them stay focused as we reviewed.

I use this every time in my sentence structure unit. Great practice and the kids do well with it :)
